Bowling Green, Ky. (May 13, 2019)–The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 3, Bowling Green will participate in this year’s national Click It or Ticket (CIOT) seat belt campaign, which will take place May 20 through June 2, 2019. “Click It or Ticket” is a highly visible seat belt enforcement campaign that includes enforcement and media messaging to ensure motorists are buckled up.
According to NHTSA, in 2017, there were 10,076 unbuckled passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes in the United States. In that same year, 55 percent of passenger vehicle occupants killed at night (6 p.m.–5:59 a.m.) were not wearing their seat belts.
With an increased number of cars on Kentucky highways during the Memorial Day holiday, it’s imperative for drivers to wear their seat belt, stay alert, and refrain from aggressive driving. Of the 725 highway fatalities last year in Kentucky, 52.8 percent were not wearing a seat belt.
