Leitchfield, Ky. (December 21, 2018)- Kentucky State Police Post 4 Detectives arrested a Leitchfield man after allegations of physical abuse of a child were discovered. On Thursday, December 20, 2018, at approximately 12:00 P.M. CST; Trooper Seth Payne, while on routine patrol, observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on the William Thomason Byway and followed the vehicle to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center (TLRMC) in Leitchfield. After arriving at TLRMC, Trooper Payne and Trooper Brandon Brooks discovered that James Garrigus (25) of Leitchfield was transporting his girlfriend’s one-year old child to the hospital for medical treatment. The child was later transported to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville. Based on the child’s injuries troopers notified KSP Post 4 detectives that the injuries may have been a result of physical child abuse. KSP Post 4 detectives’ preliminary investigation revealed, that while under the care of Garrigus, the child suffered severe head trauma at a residence located at 757 Clark School Road in Clarkson.
On December 21, 2018 at 2:50 A.M. CST, Garrigus was arrested and charged with one (1) count of assault 1stdegree and was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center. The victim is listed in critical condition at this time. The investigation is ongoing by KSP Post 4 Detective Travis Sturgill.
