LEBANON JUNCTION, Ky. (Mar. 17, 2022) – The suspect in this investigation is David J. Knopp, age 23 of Shepherdsville. He has been charged with fleeing or evading police, assault on service animal, wanton endangerment and attempted murder of a police officer. He is currently listed in stable condition and remains in the University of Louisville Hospital.

LEBANON JUNCTION, Ky. (March 10, 2022) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) has been requested by the Lebanon Junction Police Department to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred at approximately 9:00 p.m. EST on March 9 in Bullitt County.
At the request of the Lebanon Junction Police Department, KSP Post 4 initiated an investigation into the incident which remains ongoing. Preliminary investigation indicates that officers were responding to a call in regards to a shoplifting complaint at the Dollar General Store in Lebanon Junction. Upon arrival, an officer made contact with an individual outside the store who was armed with a firearm. The individual began shooting at law enforcement and then fled on foot. Shortly after, a K-9 unit with the Shepherdsville Police Department located the individual hiding nearby. Upon the K-9 attempting to restrain him, the individual discharged his firearm and struck the K-9. Officers from the Shepherdsville Police Department and Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office returned fire, striking the suspect multiple times.
Officers rendered medical aid to the individual until EMS arrived. The individual was transported by ambulance to University of Louisville Hospital, and is being treated for life-threatening injuries.
The K-9 with the Shepherdsville Police Department died from gunshot injuries.
The KSP Post 4 investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
