Elizabethtown, KY. (September 16, 2020) – Kentucky State Police Post 4 responded to a collision involving a SUV and an ATV in Hardin Co. Tuesday afternoon. On September 15, 2020 at approximately 12:45 P.M. ET, KSP Post 4 received a call from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office requesting assistance with a collision involving a SUV and ATV near the 10,000 block of KY1600. The preliminary investigation revealed Joseph Hughes, age 86 of Vine Grove, was attempting to cross the roadway operating an ATV when he entered the path of a 1995 Ford Explorer operated by Alyssa Hammock, age 19 of Guston.
Hughes was transported to University of Louisville Hospital with life threating injuries and was later pronounced deceased by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. The affected portion of KY1600 was closed in order to allow troopers to investigate the collision. Hammock was not injured. The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, Vine Police Department, Vine Grove Fire Department and Hardin County EMS assisted KSP at the scene. The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Pete Binkley.
