Draffin KY (February 13, 2020) Just before 7AM Post 9 was notified of a train derailment involving a southbound CSX train. The derailment was caused by a large mud and rockslide on the tracks.
Due to the train striking the slide, two engines and an unknown number of rail cars ended up on the riverbank. There was a fire at the scene, which was completely contained with no danger to the public.
The train crew was assisted from the engine by another CXS crewmember, and exited by way of the riverbank. Rescue personal responded to the scene with boats if needed.
CSX emergency teams have been mobilized along with other agencies and will be responding to the scene over the next few days. The public is being ask to avoid the area as much as possible for safety, due to the limited amount of parking and narrow roadway in the area.
